Yohana and I were at it again, after our skydiving adventure Welcome to the Sky. We headed over to Joshua tree national park. It's more like Flintstone land!
Located on the San Bernardino/Riverside border it’s home to the Joshua tree (Yucca). Apparently these are really famous to rock climbers, and scrambling enthusiast. Depending on which entrance you enter the park through you will see big rocks piled on top of each other. When I say big I mean enormous, in photos they look like pebbles just tossed in a little section on the side of the road.
I can't say we had a plan once we arrived, we were going to figure out what to do when we get there. We did a little bit of everything. Rock climbing, rock balancing (“Balanced Stacking” to be exact) , we did the Lost Palms Oasis Trail, we explored the whole park.
Oh! I almost forgot, we practiced our mandatory ninja moves you can see in the photos...
A Key feature about Joshua tree is Skull Rock. You walk by it and at first it just seems like a normal rock, then you take a second look and it looks like a skull! AAH!
Joshua tree is a great place to visit: easy to get to, easy camping, no backcountry permits required, just about anything you can ask for a short getaway weekend trip.
Some thoughts to share from our experience:
- Bring sun screen! A MUST you WILL burn…
- Bring Plenty of water (the sun can get scorching hot, especially if you do any hiking)
- Be ready for weather changes bring a light waterproof jacket
- Bring a camera, :P make sure you get yourself next to those huge boulders…
