Closest City: Huntington Beach
State: California
Country: United States

You just can't beat the location of this campground!  Sunset Vista is located within the Huntington City Beach Parking lot just south of the pier.  You are within walking distance to the downtown area where you can shop to you drop and have loads of good restaurants to choose from (including Ruby's at the end of the pier).  On Fridays there is a Farmer's Market next to the pier where there are a lot of unique hand crafted items and on Tuesday nights there is a street fair (down Main Street) with vendors offering everything from roasted peppers to beautiful paintings.  The highlight for us was the dog beach!  Everyday we took our dog, Gracie, to play in the surf!  Huntington Beach Dog Beach is about a mile north of the pier and is accessible by the bike path.  The beach is about a mile long and is just a great place to take your dogs!

You won't find this campground through any of the sites like Reserve America because it is operated by the City of Huntington Beach.  Reservations are only done by mail, although you can go to www.surfcity-hb.org/VISITORS/beach_info to print out a reservation form.  You can also view a live Webcam and get current weather conditions on this same site.  The campground is only open October through May but the weather can be nice and sunny even through the winter months!  Fees are $60 per night ($10.00 discount for seniors - 62+).  There are two rows of sites (total of  46 spaces) with water and electric hook ups.  The front row is slightly elevated from the walkway/bike path and has an unobstructed view of the beach and ocean.   The back row has larger sites (for vehicles over 30 feet).  Amenities include a dump station, outside showers, and 2 restroom facilities, easy access to the firepits, along with everything the beach has to offer! No matter what time of year you choose to come, there is always something happening in "Surf City".  HB is the home of the US Open of Pro Surfing and AVP Pro Beach Volleyball.  For a calendar of events go to www.surfcityusa.com

Do they book all at once or month by month? Any chance May still has openings?

You may be able to get a site during the week in May. I know they are all booked for the weekends. Reservations for Oct -Nov-Dec-Jan can be booked no earlier that Aug. 1. Reservations for Feb-Mar-Apr-May can be booked no earlier than Dec. 1.
