DIRECTIONS: Babcock Lake is located along Yosemite National Park's High Sierra Loop approximately 2.4 miles south from Emerick Lake and 3 miles north of Merced Lake HSC. From the main trail
DESCRIPTION: From the main High Sierra Loop, Babcock Lake is reached via a 0.4 mile side spur branching off to the west. Fletcher Creek may seem impassible (without getting wet) but look just down the creek for a log crossing. Pick the trail back up on the opposite side and then you will cross over one more tiny rivulet of water flow. After a small rise, Babcock Lake unfolds below to the right side. Continue down farther along the eastern shore (left side) and you will come to two large boulders dipping directly into the lake. Set in between these two boulders is a fire ring and quaint little campsite. Other sites are in the area.
NOTE: The mosquitoes can be MADDENING at this location (early summer), so it may be wise to pack a head net for sanity's sake.
