Chilnualna Falls hike (Yosemite)

Posted on October 13, 2008 by: Traveler

  • All along the Chilnualna Falls hike are Manzanita.
  • I call Manzanita blood trees because of the color of the bark. It is dark red to brown and some, like here, only have a vein of color showing.

Best Time To Visit: Year-round
Closest City: Fish Camp
State: 7
Country: 209

DIRECTIONS: From the Highway 41 entrance of Yosemite National Park, turn left at the junction just past the ranger kiosk. Signs will indicate you are heading for the Wawona area. You will pass the Wawona Hotel on the left and a golf course on the right. There are public restrooms at the Wilderness Permit Station near the Wawona Hotel and then a short distance up Highway 41 at the gas station and gift shop area on the right side. This area, before the bridge crossing over the South Fork Merced River, is also where the Pioneer Yosemite History Center is located. Park at the gift shop and walk through the covered bridge to get there. Cross over the South Fork Merced River bridge and continue a short distance up Highway 41. At the next road junction, turn right where there is a sign with Chilnualna Falls on it. This road winds through what appears to be a residential area. Just don't turn down any side spur and you will eventually arrive at the small parking area to the right side. The road continues just past this location down to Chilnualna Creek and this is where the trail begins heading up the left side.
