DIRECTIONS: This trail segment begins at Emerick Lake near Vogelsang High Sierra Camp and can be linked up with Yosemite National Park's High Sierra Loop trail . Please view; Tuolumne Meadow to Emerick Lake via Rafferty Creek, to see one of the possible trailheads for a multi-day, backcountry adventure to this area of the Yosemite wilderness.
DESCRIPTION: After backtracking the 0.4 mile trail to the main High Sierra Loop Trail, turn right and head toward the crossing of Fletcher Creek just ahead. NOTE: The pictures with this write-up show us traveling on the opposite side of Fletcher Creek through the meadow due to high water flow (June). We eventually crossed Fletcher Creek at a shallow/ narrow point just up from where the terrain starts to take on some serious altitude adjustment. A short level wooded area, brings you to the short 0.4 mile side spur of tiny Babcock Lake. There is good camping along Babcock's eastern shore. Unfortunately, that makes for a very short day of walking because of it's close proximity to Emerick. No, our destination for this day was Merced Lake (and even then, we had hours to lazily burn).
