DIRECTIONS: From the Highway 41 entrance of Yosemite National Park, turn left at the junction just past the ranger kiosk. Signs will indicate you are heading for the Wawona area. There are public restrooms at the Wilderness Permit Station near the Wawona Hotel and then a short distance up Highway 41 at the gas station and gift shop area on the right side (the restrooms at Glacier Point are still an hour away). This area, before the bridge crossing over the South Fork Merced River, is also where the Pioneer Yosemite History Center is located. Park at the gift shop and walk through the covered bridge to get there. Continuing up Highway 41, you will pass over the drainages of Alder and Bishop Creeks before seeing a road on the left heading to an area called Yosemite West. These are private residences within the boundary of Yosemite and some are for rent. Just past Yosemite West, you will come to a junction called Chinquapin. The 16 mile (one-way) Glacier Point road begins here at the right fork of Chinaquapin.
ROAD CLOSURE: The Glacier Point Road is closed after the Badger Pass ski area (California's first ski resort) from November to May. If snowfall has accumulated, it is possible to drive up to the Badger Pass parking lot (mile 5) and cross-country ski up to the road's end at Glacier Point. After all the uphill effort, skiers will be rewarded with an approximately 11 mile run back to the parking area.
