DIRECTIONS: May Lake is accessed via a two mile road branching off the Tioga Road (Highway 120) east of Porcupine Flat and west of Olmstead Point. This two mile gravel road leads to the small parking area for May Lake. There is a small (murky) pond to the left side of the parking area. The 2.5 mile trail, with a 250 ft. elevation gain begins here. Lok to the left side of the pond and you will see the trailhead as it begins looping around.
DESCRIPTION: May Lake is an area where rustic backcounry camping (along southern shore) meets the posh cnavas walled cabin of the High Sierra Camp (along the northeastern shoreline). Looming high overhead is 10,850 ft. Mount Hoffman, considered by some to be the epicenter of Yosemite National Park. The hiking trail up to Mount Hoffman's panoramic summit begins just past the camping area along the southern shore. Hard to make out in some places, it is both challenging and rewarding once at the top.
